CROSSING BORDERS: WRITING ACROSS GENRES

Residential: £495 (single); £435 (shared) 

This course welcomes new and experienced writers who seek to broaden their writing horizons. Author and poet, Owen Sheers, and poet and songwriter, Paul Henry, will encourage you to work collaboratively with others as well as inspiring you to discover new terrains within your own writing – exploring and encouraging the relationship between fiction and non-fiction, music and poetry, songwriting and drama, autobiography and confabulation, voice and narrative.  A combination of workshops, one-to-one tutorials, and performances of works-in-progress will take place during the week. Musical instruments welcome (though not obligatory.)

Paul Henry

PAUL HENRY is one of Wales’s leading poets. The author of five collections of verse, he has read at festivals across the UK and Europe. Originally a songwriter, Henry has guest-edited Poetry Wales and is a popular Creative Writing tutor. He currently presents the 'Inspired' series of arts programmes for BBC Radio Wales.

OWEN SHEERS has written two collections of poetry, The Blue Book and Skirrid Hill (Seren) for which he won a 2006 Somerset Maugham Award.  His debut prose work The Dust Diaries (Faber 2004), a travel memoir set in Zimbabwe won the Welsh Book of the Year 2005.  His first novel, Resistance, (Faber, 2007) was short listed for the Writer’s Guild Best Book Award and has been translated into 9 languages. Owen has collaborated with artists, film makers and musicians. In 2007 he wrote the libretto for Rachel Portman’s oratorio The Water Diviner’s Tale and the BBC radio play, If I Should Go Away, based upon the life and poetry of Alun Lewis.
