Are you working on a novel or short story? Patrick Gale and Tiffany Murray will take you through aspects of character and place in a work of fiction with writing exercises and reading-for-writers. For those with a manuscript in progress or those thinking about beginning a new project, the week will focus on writing workshops, exercises and discussions.

PATRICK GALE has been a novelist since giving up on trying to be an actor in
1984 and has since produced thirteen novels, a book of stories and a life of
Armistead Maupin. His latest novels include Rough Music, Friendly Fire and
Notes from an Exhibition, which was a Richard and Judy selection and won the
2008 Independent Booksellers’ Book of the Year award. 2009 will see the
publication of a new novel and his second collection of short stories. He is
a keen cellist and gardener and lives at Land’s End.

TIFFANY MURRAY is the author of the forthcoming Diamond Star Halo (Portobello
Books, 2010) and Happy Accidents (HarperPerennial, 2005), which was short-listed for the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at The University of Glamorgan.
